educating

I have been an arts educator for youth throughout a number of organisations in Vancouver, BC. I teach classes and intensives as an instructor at Arts Umbrella; develop and deliver tours and workshops as an educator at the Vancouver Art Gallery; and previously coordinated all inaugural family programming for the Polygon Gallery. I also co-develop and facilitate collaborative professional workshops as part of the artist collective, Waste Authority.

Classes I have taught include drawing & painting, mixed media, sculpture, cartooning, printmaking, and architecture. I have also taught a contemporary art teen intensive through Arts Umbrella and in partnership with SFU and the Contemporary Art Gallery. This aims to build a foundational understanding of contemporary art through artist-led workshops, studio visits, and collaborative experimental projects which ends in professional exhibition for the students. I have worked with every youth age group from 3-5 years old to advanced 13-19 years old, and ran workshops for other professional artists.

As an educator, I believe in building an understanding of contemporary art as a critical and creative engagement with our shared and personal experiences. I believe in an inclusive educational approach which prioritizes accessibility regardless of age, socioeconomic background, cultural belonging, sexual identity or gender, and physical or learning ability.
